Pedro Chuca and Gerardo Monarrez each scored two goals to lead Santa Teresa to a 6-1 victory over Oñate on Saturday. The Desert Warriors scored four goals in the second half after a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Three girls from Mayfield finished in the top five to help win the Silver City cross country meet on Saturday. MHS sophomore Mia Herrera finished third in 20 minutes, 45 seconds. Crystal Holguin was fourth in 21:17 and Amy Arenas was fifth with a time of 21:24. Other MHS times were Brianna Soto's 22:31 and Caitlin Clifton's 23:33. The Mayfield boys finished fifth.

Oñate finished third in the girls meet and fourth in the boys meet. Oñate's Laura finished seventh in 22:04. Natalie Wells finished 11th, Amery Medina was 14th and Cierra places 17th. Oñate's Gary Sancez was second in the boys meet with a time of 17:58. Jerry Hobbs was fourth and Paul Burns was 12th.

Las Cruces runner Sheila finished the two-mile course at the Dale Reinhardt Invitational in El Paso in 14:26 to finish 13th of 145 runners. LCHS runner Robert Altamirano finished 32nd of 172 in 18:36 to help the Las Cruces boys finish 17th of 25 teams.

WACO, Texas — Sophomore Roman Stoisavljevic (8-1) and junior Jeff Pfeifer (7-3) both won two matches Saturday to move on in their brackets at the Baylor HEB Intercollegiates tennins tournament.

Stoisavljevic defeated Rice's Jason Mock, 6-3, 6-4, in the consolation bracket of the top draw and then defeated Dusan Tabak from Louisiana Lafayette, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. The victories give him three singles victories in the tournament and he has now won 15 of his last 19 matches dating back to last season. He will start out today's play with his semifinal match in the Gold division back draw.

Junior Jeff Pfeifer defeated Lamar's Kody Duplechin in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) and later won by default against Jon Greenberg of Rice. Pfeifer will play in the quarterfinals of the Green draw consolation bracket today.

Brandon Burton scored three goals and had four assists in the Trojans' 9-0 victory over Silver on Saturday in a makeup game that was Mayfield's final game before opening District 3-5A against Las Cruces on Tuesday. Neil Gamboa was one of three players who tallied two goals in the win.

Jacquez had 25 kills, 15 blocks, six aces and 10 digs in a losing effort, as Ruidoso beat the Desert Warriors lost 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 24-26, 15-13 on Saturday. Santa Teresa's Amber Alvarez had 10 kills, two blocks and three aces.

Hatch Valley took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Socorro tied it late in the second half and won scored six minutes into overtime for a 2-1 victory.

LAS CRUCES — Junior Anne Fagegaltier and sophomore Paulina Zuniga were victorious Saturday and advanced to their championship matches in their respective draws at the Aggie Women's Tennis Invitational.

Fagegaltier defeated Northern Arizona's Paij Porter in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to advance to today's championship in the women's C singles draw where she meets Okahoma State's Nataliya Shatkovskaya.

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico State men's golf team struggled Saturday in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico Championship Course.

The Aggies finished the tournament in a tie for 14th with fellow WAC member Hawaii with scores of 42-over-par 906. The NMSU men's golf team started the day in eighth place, but slowly dropped down the leader board.

"We obviously didn't play the way we are capable of playing," NMSU head coach Scott Lieberwirth said. "After a tournament like this the best thing we could do is look at our positives and identify areas where we aren't doing so well."
