HBO follows its Red Sox documentaries "The Curse of the Bambino" and "Reverse of the Curse" with one about the Cubs, whose own curses included goats and, in their 2003 run, a young man named Steve Bartman. "Wait 'Til Next Year: The Saga of the Chicago Cubs" (HBO, 10 p.m.), like the Sox films, are filled with commentary by fervent fans, famous and not, along with extensive footage of past triumphs and heartbreaks at Wrigley Field.
A new "Nova" (WGBY, Springfield, Channel 57, 8 p.m.) follows scientists trying to get clues on a huge eruption that had a disastrous global impact 75,000 years ago.
"Connecticut on Alert" (CPTV, 8 p.m.) produced with the state Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, looks at changes in the state since Sept. 11. It's followed by the very similarly named "On Alert: Connecticut's Response" (CPTV, 9 p.m.), a live town meeting broadcast taking call-in questions.
Delving in nostalgia 'n' commentary territory pioneered by VH1, the four-episode "Generation Boom" (TV Land, 10 p.m.) - which credits the generation of the network's primary audience with everything from Elvis to MTV - stumbles immediately when it identifies Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, invented in 1966, as a toy of the '50s.
